Density/Obesity

Density= mass/volume. I wonder if I wouldn’t mind taking up so much physical space if I didn’t weigh so much? People talk about weight (I weigh too much), and sometimes volume (my clothes don’t fit ‘cos I’m too fat), but rarely density (I have heavy bones because my skeleton has become more dense to carry the enormous weight it has been asked to support).

Concerned with the portrayal of 3d concept of volume through juxtaposition and placement of objects. Childlike use of stencils, graph paper, simple images underpin the aesthetic of the pieces.




Based upon the collages and still life drawings a piece from this body of work was submitted to the National Crafts Competion 2008:

  • Winner of Contemporary Embroidery Award
  • Máirín O'Brien Flegg Memorial Award
  • Crafts Council of Ireland purchase award


RDS Travelling Student Art & Craft Exhibitions

An exhibition of winning entries and works of excellence from the RDS National Crafts Competition and the RDS Student Art Awards travels to a number of venues around Ireland from August to December each year in order to promote the artists and designers to a wider audience.
